Switzerland is...STUNNINGLY BEAUTIFUL! Everywhere you look is just incredible and looks like a postcard and not real life. We flew into Zurich and then drove out to Lucerne for our first stop. But driving in Switzerland is quite stressful. You know how IKEA stores are set up? Winding/curvy aisles everywhere with so much stuff to look at and hard to find an exit? Driving in Switzerland is just like that. Finding a place to park is another adventure all by itself. So we parked and walked as much as possible.
Back in the summer of 1993, I spent 26 days touring Europe with the American Musical Ambassadors playing oboe in their Concert Band across 8 countries in Europe. Switzerland was a country we stopped in. I loved it 30 years ago. I remembered going to Mount Titlis (not 100% sure how to pronounce this but I definitely wasn't going to buy a t-shirt with this name on it๐) walking through a glacier that had a giant hole drilled through it. I remembered it being super slippery and catching a few people in front of me that almost fell. So I wanted to do it again! Mount Titlis is in the Swiss Alps and has snow YEAR ROUND. This attraction has definitely improved in the last 30 years--it was cool back in 1993 but it had so much more to do and see this time. Tatum LOVED it. This ended up being her favorite thing we did the whole trip:
Glacier Lake |
Walking through the Glacier:
Views outside the Glacier:
Lucerne:
The city was quite beautiful as well. We walked all over the city--the new and old parts. The beautiful cathedral located in Lucerne:Lake Lucerne:
The Famous Footbridge |
Creepy paintings on the Footbridge--all of them had skeletons... |
Cannot find any info on this female statue. Tatum cracks herself up... |
We climbed the Zyt Tower Clock near the Musegg Wall that's been around since 1535:
The Dying Lion Monument: Sculpted in memory of the Swiss Guards killed during a war in 760. Currently under renovations/restorations.
Our condo that we rented was right by a small lake. It does not get dark until about 10 pm in France/Switzerland this time of year. So this was our view from the small lake at about 9 pm our last night in Lucerne:
Zurich:
Zurich was also beautiful but extremely stressful to drive in. It is definitely a busier place than Lucerne. But we of course had to go to the Lindt Chocolate Museum!!!
Largest REAL chocolate fountain in the world! |
Samples! Everywhere!!! |
WHAT does that sign say??? |
So in 10 days, we walked a little over 40 miles and climbed 86 flights of stairs. We were thoroughly EXHAUSTED to say the least. We had such a great time touring with Tatum. We were all ready to come home to sleep in our own beds again and Tatum couldn't wait for DR. PEPPER--which we only found ONCE on our entire trip:) How blessed we have been to spend this one-on-one time with each of our kids. Beautiful memories made with each one.
