Paris--Catacombs & Eiffel Tower

We were excited to go to the Paris Catacombs again--we took Carlie in 2017 but then there was a transportation strike in 2018 that prevented us from taking Ethan.  We bought our tickets online in advance to be sure to get in.
I know the Catacombs are not for everyone but we sure love them.  As the cemeteries were overflowing in Paris, the smell/diseases became a real problem--a graveyard actually cracked opened and bodies flowed into nearby home basements.  Another problem the city faced was that certain areas of the city began to collapse due to unrestrained lime-stone mining.  So there were huge holes under the city that needed to be filled with something to prevent collapsing...hmmm...seems like a brilliant idea to me.  So they began moving/arranging skeletons in the lime stone pits.  Arranging them into beautiful artwork--better than just burning them or desecrating them any further.  I think we an all at least agree that this is was a very practical/creative idea.

City Sites:

Seine River

Even the gelato is a work of art.

Sand art

Notre Dame

Eiffel Tower:

We did it!  All 664 steps of the Eiffel Tower!  Max didn't think it was that bad.  I was the last one up but I didn't trail behind that far.

Max's favorite part of the Eiffel was meeting "Mr. Boombah Stick" (from West Africa) who made him a bracelet that we gave him 3 Euros for. 😕
